On Tuesday, November 6, 2007, Davis Malm attorney Marjorie Suisman participated in a Boston Bar Association Continuing Legal Education course, "Health Care at the End of Life: Navigating Legal Challenges in Planning, Payment and Treatment." The program addressed key issues surrounding end-of-life care, and was specifically designed for experienced health law practitioners as well as estate planning attorneys. Ms. Suisman discussed how to prepare a health care proxy and other relevant documents that best reflect and carry out a client’s wishes. Other panelists discussed coverage payment sources as well as the challenges in obtaining coverage for end-of-life care. The panel also offered a legal perspective on how end-of-life treatment decisions are made as well as the overall impact that advance planning can have on decision-making outcomes. The panel was comprised of a variety of experts in the field, including estate planning practitioners, in house counsel for a major teaching hospital, a physician ethicist, and attorneys knowledgeable about health care payment systems.

Ms. Suisman is a shareholder at Davis Malm where she practices in the Trusts and Estates Group.
